After nearly two years sidelined by a devastating ACL injury, Ghanaian forward Daniel‑Kofi Kyereh is finally back in full-speed training with SC Freiburg’s first team, an emotional milestone for the 29‑year‑old and the club.
Kyereh, who joined Freiburg in June 2022 after a standout season at FC St. Pauli, was quickly embraced as a pacey, dynamic addition to the side. His early promise was clear: he scored in the Bundesliga opener against Mainz on October 1, 2022, and followed it up with a Europa League strike against Nantes days later.
But the trajectory shifted harshly in training on February 9, 2023, when Kyereh tore his anterior cruciate ligament, a repeat of the injury he suffered six years earlier.
This setback forced him out for the rest of the season and into a painstaking recovery process abroad.
“Kofi has been suffering for a long time. Two years is a really long time,” Streich observed. “Nevertheless, there have been positive moments recently. He’s mostly been playing individually … he’s already participated in some of our training sessions at the start. These are moments that make us feel positive.”
Two years and countless rehab sessions later, Daniel‑Kofi Kyereh stands at the threshold of a remarkable comeback. Whether he returns to the matchday squad next month or the winter break, Freiburg’s latest training update offers hope; not only for him, but for anyone who’s fought back from injury.

The Black Queens of Ghana have secured a commanding 4-1 victory over Tanzania to book their spot in the quarter-finals of the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) currently ongoing in Morocco.
Pierluigi Collina, the Chairman of the FIFA Referees Committee, says that he is very happy with the refereeing innovations introduced at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™, including body cameras for referees, advanced semi-automated offside technology and the new eight-second rule aimed at cutting down time-wasting by goalkeepers.
