Football will once again take centre stage as a force for positive social change when the 5th edition of the Sarkis Peace Cup takes place from Friday, 31 July to Sunday, 2 August 2026 at the Gbawe-Mallam Astro Turf.
Organised by the Accra Hotspurs Foundation, the annual tournament has grown into one of the community's most impactful youth football initiatives since its inception in July 2022. Beyond the excitement of the game, the Sarkis Peace Cup is committed to using football as a platform to educate, inspire and empower young people.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Mohammed Laryea, CEO of the Accra Hotspurs Foundation and the main organiser of the competition, emphasised that the tournament was established to promote peace, unity and national development through football.
According to him, the competition aims to educate the youth on the dangers of drug abuse, encourage peaceful coexistence, and sensitise young people against electoral violence. The tournament also serves as a talent identification platform, giving aspiring footballers the opportunity to showcase their abilities before scouts and clubs.
In addition to football opportunities, the initiative seeks to empower young people by connecting them with organisations that support youth development, with some participants securing direct employment through partnerships created by the project.
As anticipation builds for this year's edition, participating teams, football lovers and community members are expected to converge on the Gbawe-Mallam Astro Turf for three days of exciting football, education and community engagement.
The organisers remain confident that the 5th edition will continue the tournament's mission of transforming lives, promoting peace and creating opportunities for Ghana's next generation of football stars and future leaders.
