The Police Handball Team has booked their place in the next round of the 2025 Greater Accra Handball League Clubs Association (GAHLCA) Cup competition in both the men’s and women’s divisions.
The first-round clashes took place at the Striking Force Grande Arena, Police Handball Court, Accra Central, from Friday, 8th to Saturday, 9th August.
Opening the competition against archrivals Prisons, the Police Women’s team showcased their trademark experienced 6-set lineup alongside their promising young goalkeeper Esther Mezo, who faced a tougher opponent this season on home turf.
Police went into halftime with an 11-7 lead and carried their momentum into the second half with relentless fast breaks, long passes, and powerful jump shots. They sealed a commanding 24-18 victory, securing their spot in the next round.
On Saturday, the Police Men faced Burma Camp-based Army in a high-intensity encounter. Led by captain Joseph Quaidoo and goalkeeper Gerald Folley, the hosts energized their supporters, including their Sports Director, ASP Miss Benice Timbila, with a strong first-half performance, leading 14-10.
Army fought back after the break, but Police maintained composure in defense and attack to finish with a hard-fought 34-31 win, joining their female counterparts in the next stage of the tournament.
With both teams advancing, Police Handball has sent a strong message that they remain a force to be reckoned with in the 2025 GAHLCA Cup encounter.
