The Black Queens of Ghana have secured a commanding 4-1 victory over Tanzania to book their spot in the quarter-finals of the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) currently ongoing in Morocco.

The Ghanaians got off to a flying start when forward Princella Adubea broke the deadlock in the 12th minute, finishing off a well-worked team move to give the Black Queens an early lead. However, Tanzania responded strongly and were rewarded in the 41st minute when Stumai Athumani capitalized on a defensive lapse to bring the Twiga Stars level just before halftime.

Ghana emerged from the break with renewed urgency and were handed a golden opportunity in the 63rd minute when they won a penalty. Alice Kusi stepped up confidently and made no mistake, restoring Ghana’s advantage from the spot.

The Black Queens continued to press and got their third in the 76th minute after substitute Stella Nyamekye delivered a dangerous set-piece that fell kindly to Evelyn Badu, who made no mistake in slotting home.

Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah put the result beyond doubt in the dying minutes, latching onto a loose ball and firing home in the 90th minute to make it 4-1 and complete a dominant performance.

The victory sees Ghana through to the quarter-finals of the continental tournament, as they look to chase their first WAFCON title. Coach Kim Lars’ side will be brimming with confidence heading into the next stage, having shown great attacking quality and composure under pressure.

Ghana’s fans will now look forward to the knockout rounds with hope, as the Black Queens continue their strong run in Morocco.
