Ghanaian striker Jalal Abdulai had a night of highs and lows as Elfsborg drew 1-1 with Rijeka in the UEFA Europa League Qualification Round 3 on Thursday.
Jalal Abdulai put Elfsborg ahead in the 25th minute with a right-footed strike from the centre of the box, assisted by Arbër Zeneli. However, his evening took a turn for the worse when he received a second yellow card for a foul in the 56th minute, resulting in a red card and an early exit from the match.
Despite Abdulai’s dismissal, Elfsborg managed to hold on to a draw. Rijeka's equalizer came in stoppage time of the first half, with Niko Galesic scoring from a pass by Niko Jankovic.
Fellow Ghanaians Michael Baidoo and Terry Yegbe also featured for Elfsborg, with Baidoo playing 78 minutes and Yegbe completing the match. Elfsborg will now shift focus to their Swedish Allsvenskan clash against GAIS on August 11.
