FIFA 2026 World Cup Preview: Ghana vs Panama

The Black Stars begin their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a crucial Group L clash against Panama in Toronto. With heavyweights England and Croatia also in the group, this is arguably the most important game for both sides if they are serious about reaching the knockout stage.

Ghana come into the match with greater World Cup experience, making their fifth appearance at the tournament, while Panama are featuring in only their second World Cup. The Black Stars will be relying on the pace and creativity of players like Antoine Semenyo, Ernest Nuamah, and Inaki Williams to unlock a disciplined Panama defence.

Panama, coached by Thomas Christiansen, are known for their organisation and work rate. They qualified impressively and will view this fixture as their best opportunity to claim points before facing tougher tests later in the group.

A major talking point for Ghana is the absence of Thomas Partey, who will miss the match after being unable to travel to Canada. Coach Carlos Queiroz has, however, expressed confidence in the squad available for selection.

Key Battle

Ghana’s attacking speed versus Panama’s defensive discipline. If the Black Stars can move the ball quickly and exploit the flanks, they should create enough chances to win the game.

Prediction

Panama will make life difficult, but Ghana’s superior individual quality could prove decisive.

Prediction: Ghana 2-1 Panama
